Service robots, poised to revolutionize daily life in future cities, are finally setting foot in subway stations. VD Robotics has partnered with Seoul Metro Line 9 to launch an unprecedented Proof of Concept (PoC) project, which will simultaneously verify both public utility and business viability for approximately one month at Noryangjin and Dongjak Stations. This project holds significant meaning as it is the first attempt in Korea to simultaneously pursue two goals: the public value of enhancing citizen convenience and the exploration of new commercial possibilities, going beyond a simple technology demonstration. Two types of robots will be deployed in this demonstration, each performing different missions. First, the display-based guide robot, 'KetiBot,' will focus on answering subway passengers' questions. It will provide visual information for frequently asked questions, with a significant public purpose of reducing the burden of repetitive complaint handling for station staff and improving customer service quality. By directly escorting users to key facilities such as lost and found centers and restrooms, it will go beyond simple information provision to offer practical navigation, thereby expected to significantly contribute to the operational efficiency of on-site personnel. Meanwhile, 'PuduBot Pro,' the other protagonist, will explore commercial potential as a mobile advertising medium. This robot will freely move within the station, broadcasting commercial advertisements, focusing on captivating passengers' attention and maximizing advertising effects. Through the operation of PuduBot Pro, VD Robotics plans to precisely analyze the robot advertising effect and user recognition rate in the unique environment of a subway station, thereby deeply exploring its potential for expansion as a future commercial robot media. This project is expected to be a new turning point, moving away from the existing procurement-service-oriented robot business model, and instead, having private companies and public institutions jointly explore business possibilities. A VD Robotics official stated, "This will set a new standard for the utilization of service robots in urban spaces," emphasizing that this demonstration will be a crucial milestone in 'connecting robots with daily life,' allowing robots to integrate more naturally into our routines. Going forward, VD Robotics plans to continue expanding the role of service robots at various urban touchpoints, sketching out a blueprint for future urban living.
