Superb AI, LG AI Research Institute Partner for 'K-Physical AI' Development

## Superb AI Leads Core Development of 'Physical AI' in LG AI Research Institute Consortium Superb AI, a company specializing in vision AI, will play a pivotal role in the LG AI Research Institute consortium, participating in the Ministry of Science and ICT's 'Building Independent AI Foundation Models' project. Notably, as the only non-LG affiliate responsible for AI model development, it has demonstrated a unique presence in the fields of VLM (Vision-Language Model) and Physical AI, which are core pillars of future AI. Based on its experience in building domestic vision foundation models, Superb AI will lead the overall design and construction of the data foundation for implementing multimodal and physical AI by collecting, selecting, and synthesizing complex environmental data such as visual, natural language, and behavioral data. Unlike other project groups that are LLM-centric, the LG AI Research Institute consortium aims for VLM, multimodal, and physical AI, employing a differentiated strategy. In line with the rapidly changing AI technology environment, it will pursue the development of a hyperscale AI model representing South Korea for the next three years, with a 'moving target' strategy aiming for over 95% performance compared to global-level models on a 6-month to 1-year cycle. Physical AI is a next-generation AI that goes beyond text understanding, integrating visual information and language, and further directly interacts with the real world. It refers to intelligence that perceives and judges the environment using sensors like cameras and LiDAR, and performs physical actions with robotic arms, etc. It can be utilized in various industries such as manufacturing, logistics, medical, and services. Especially South Korea, a manufacturing powerhouse in areas like automobiles and semiconductors, possesses abundant industrial data and infrastructure necessary for Physical AI development, which is advantageous for securing competitiveness. In this project, Superb AI will support the development of the 'brain' of Physical AI that understands 3D space and situations, makes its own judgments, and interacts with objects. It also plans to lower commercialization barriers by releasing commercially usable multimodal data as open source. Furthermore, the industrial foundation model 'ZERO', developed by integrating expertise in data design, construction, and model training, is a general-purpose AI model applicable to various visual tasks without additional training. It enables high-performance AI implementation with only a small amount of data, thereby significantly lowering AI adoption barriers. ZERO has proven its global technological competitiveness by ranking first among major global models in industrial video AI benchmarks and securing second place in the CVPR 2025 Challenge of the world vision AI conference. Established in 2018, Superb AI provides vision AI solutions to over 100 leading domestic and international companies, including Samsung, LG Electronics, Qualcomm, and Hyundai Motor. It has expanded into three countries – South Korea, the United States, and Japan – and holds 31 patents. To date, through a total of 49 billion won in investment attraction, it is accelerating next-generation vision and multimodal AI research and development and global business expansion.
