With smartphones, it has become possible to manage and prevent drunk driving by taxi drivers, leading to the introduction of an AI-based safety management system in the transportation industry. SmartRide, an 'AI-based mobility integrated infrastructure operation platform company,' has ushered in a new era of smart safety management by piloting the distribution of AI-authenticated breathalyzers linked to its corporate taxi management app 'Driver's Log' starting this month. This system works by having taxi drivers authenticate their face through their 'Driver's Log' app before starting operations, and then blowing into the linked breathalyzer for 5 seconds. The critical aspect is that the facial photo and the breath alcohol test result are simultaneously stored on a central server, fundamentally preventing proxy testing or result manipulation. Lee Wooyoung, CEO of SmartRide, explained, "This system resolves the issue where it was difficult for managers to directly verify a driver's alcohol status due to the expanding 'one driver, one vehicle' work model. Drivers can perform self-authentication and testing, allowing companies to build an efficient management system based on objective records." Currently, this innovative system is being piloted in some corporate taxi companies in the Seoul area. SmartRide plans to expand the system's application beyond corporate taxis to self-operated businesses such as city buses, rental cars, and cargo trucks in the future, aiming to establish itself as a model that revolutionizes safety management across the entire transportation industry. This is expected to significantly contribute to further enhancing road safety and establishing a responsible driving culture.
