Digital healthcare startup Indream Healthcare, which is at the forefront of solving the intensifying 'polypharmacy' problem with the entry into a super-aged society, has won the honor of 2nd place in the Creativity and Innovation category at the 8th LINA 50+ Awards. This award, hosted by the LINA Prime Foundation, is presented to individuals or organizations that have contributed to improving the quality of life for middle-aged and older adults aged 50 and above, and to creating healthy social values.
Indream Healthcare's core solution, 'Indream Medisupport', is an innovative system that quickly and easily analyzes drug interactions and side effects for patients taking multiple medications. As Korea entered a super-aged society last December and the risk of polypharmacy among the elderly grew into a social problem, this solution is shining even brighter. Indeed, the number of chronic disease patients taking 10 or more medications long-term has surged by 53% in five years, reaching 1.288 million, and there are shocking research findings that inappropriate medication use increases the risk of death by 25% and the likelihood of disability by 46%.
Born out of this serious awareness of the problem, 'Indream Medisupport' utilizes Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, is compatible with various Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, and helps medical staff analyze patients' medications in real-time and prescribe them safely. It was officially introduced at Jeju National University Hospital last month, making a tangible contribution to preventing medication safety incidents among elderly patients.
CEO Kang Byung-joo, who graduated from Yonsei University College of Medicine, completed his specialist training at Asan Medical Center, and currently serves as an associate professor at Jeju National University College of Medicine, stated, "Indream Medisupport is an innovative program that supports doctors' practice and protects patient safety," expressing his aspiration that it will contribute to solving national social problems. Indream Healthcare was discovered through the Jeju Creative Economy Innovation Center's Start-Be accelerating program in 2023, receiving office space and growth programs, and had already been recognized for its technological prowess by winning awards from the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Science and ICT in 2022. Currently, as a social venture, it is actively pursuing domestic and international market expansion.
