Bio pet food startup Limpid has unveiled its innovative freeze-dried prescription pet food brand 'Dr. Trusty', opening a new chapter in the pet health management market. This marks the first attempt to introduce the freeze-drying method into the prescription pet food market, which has been dominated by the existing extrusion method, garnering significant attention from the industry. Behind this innovation is the strategic acquisition of Attyfood, a specialized freeze-dried pet food manufacturing company. Attyfood is recognized for its domestic competitiveness in producing freeze-dried compound feed, and through this acquisition, Limpid has completed a vertically integrated system from R&D to production, securing differentiated competitiveness. 'Dr. Trusty' features nutritional formulas meticulously designed by veterinary nutritionists for each specific disease, catering to pets suffering from chronic conditions such as diabetes, food allergies, and pancreatitis. Veterinarian Kim Chang-tae (CTO) emphasized that, unlike extrusion which processes at high temperature and pressure, the freeze-drying method minimizes nutrient loss and suppresses the formation of Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs), which are cited as a major cause of chronic diseases, thereby contributing to the long-term health of pets. Furthermore, Limpid plans to establish a joint venture for a specialized feed clinical trial validation center (CRO) in cooperation with Kyungpook National University, accelerating veterinary research and the acquisition of clinical data. This is based on the judgment that scientific verification is indispensable for building market trust in the prescription pet food sector, where chronic disease management is key. CEO Kim Hee-soo pointed out that even amidst the aging pet population and increasing trend of chronic diseases, the palatability and efficacy of freeze-dried prescription pet food remained an unexplored area. He expressed a strong commitment to establishing a new standard for pet health management by combining the development know-how of the existing 'Trusty Food' with the benefits of freeze-drying and the expertise of professional veterinarians.
