Every day at 8:40 AM, the YouTube live program ‘Startup Morning Coffee,’ hosted by CEO Jeon Hwa-sung, provides viewers with diverse startup information through the ‘Jeon Hwa-sung’s CNTV’ channel. This program thoroughly introduces the core competencies and market potential of startups, firmly establishing itself as a useful information platform for those interested in the startup ecosystem through interactive communication via real-time comments.
Among the companies recently highlighted in this program is Famireseda. Famireseda is an innovative company developing new varieties optimized for indoor farming through its artificial intelligence (AI)-based digital speed breeding platform, ‘On Breeding.’ Amid the growing importance of sustainable production due to climate change and environmental factors, the company started its business to address the problem that existing breeding methods are unsuitable for indoor farming environments. Famireseda's unique technology encompasses the entire process, including genetic resource acquisition, molecular marker extraction, omics database construction, and gene editing. Through AI-based predictions, it dramatically shortens breeding periods and enables early discovery and isolation of target variety characteristics. Currently, it is accelerating technological advancement with support from CNT Tech's agri-food accelerating program.
Famireseda's core competency lies in ‘data-driven speed breeding.’ It is developing robust varieties suitable for indoor cultivation environments through analysis of pepper genetic resources, quantitative trait control, and exploration of genetic linkage markers, focusing on breeding material development and the creation of multi-disease resistant, high-functional varieties using gene editing technology. Currently, the focus is on developing pepper varieties, but the company aims to expand to other high-value fruit vegetables such as strawberries in the future. The key differentiator from competitors is its strategy to preempt the premium fruit and vegetable market by developing high-functional premium new varieties specialized for indoor farm environments.
CEO Jeon Hwa-sung evaluated Famireseda's business model as an "highly scalable model that goes beyond supplying new seeds and seedlings to include production and export." The primary target is the pepper market, with plans to expand into the strawberry market thereafter. Financially, it is expected to reach its break-even point (BP) in 2027, with significant revenue growth projected from 2026, raising expectations for its growth potential.
