Social reading platform Flybook unveiled its 2025 year-end report. Cumulative subscribers exceeded 300,000.
The most notable figure in this report was the usage period. It was found that 43% of all subscribers have been using the service for more than 5 years. This is an unusual figure considering the high number of short-term users typical of smartphone apps.
Flybook attributes the long-term usage to an 'environment of reading together'. Rather than setting up reading plans alone, users naturally encounter others' reading records and continue their reading. In 2025, the number of times users started reading directly after seeing others' reading amounted to 3.1 million. On average, users encountered others' reading records 1,240 times per person.
Differences were also observed in reading volume. According to Flybook, users' average reading volume was more than 2.5 times higher than that of general adults. This is analyzed as the effect of users who participate in social features reading more frequently and consistently.
Reading preferences are also noteworthy. In 2025, Korean novels, essays, and literature genres accounted for 62% of all reading. The most-read books were, in order, 《The Rapids》, 《The Boy Who Comes》, 《Contradiction》, 《Honmono》, and 《The Vegetarian》.
CEO Kim Jun-hyun stated, "We approached reading not as a matter of willpower but as a matter of environment. When the experience of naturally encountering others' reading without competition or rankings is repeated, reading becomes closer to a habit than an effort."
