Delightroom, familiar for its alarm app 'Alarmy,' has taken an innovative step in the field of sleep health. Delightroom is gaining attention by publishing a research paper on its sleep apnea detection technology, based on respiratory sound analysis, in the prestigious international academic journal 'Nature and Science of Sleep.'
Delightroom's research team has developed 'ApneaWhisper' technology, which detects sleep apnea using only a microphone sensor, by leveraging an artificial intelligence (AI) voice recognition model. This technology captures key symptoms such as respiratory arrests, snoring, and gasping sounds that occur during sleep with over 80% accuracy, boasting up to 23% improved performance compared to existing models. Notably, it possesses the capability to meticulously analyze four types of sleep-disordered breathing – obstructive, central, mixed, and hypopnea – thereby diagnosing the specific type of the disorder.
Delightroom has consistently focused on respiratory sound analysis technology this year. In January, it unveiled 'RespireSegNet,' which functions even amidst external noise, and in October, it released a sleep stage analysis technology based on this, achieving 90% accuracy. This paper publication demonstrates that Delightroom has solidified its technical capabilities, encompassing not only sleep quality measurement but also pathological symptom analysis.
Shin Jae-myung, CEO of Delightroom, emphasized, "The sleep apnea detection technology developed this time measures not just the number of apnea events but also the duration and type of symptom manifestation, making it valuable reference material for medical analysis and research." He further highlighted that it is "an experiment that goes beyond traditional sleep examination methodologies requiring expensive equipment, presenting the possibility of easily managing sleep health at home with just a smartphone or microphone," thus emphasizing the revolutionary increase in accessibility and convenience. This technological advancement by Delightroom holds the potential to fundamentally change how individuals manage their sleep health.
