Naver and NVIDIA Forge Strategic Alliance for AI Infrastructure

In a significant development for the tech industry, Naver Corporation has announced a partnership with NVIDIA to establish a massive gigawatt-scale AI factory. The collaboration aims to kick off in 2027, with an initial capacity of 55 megawatts (MW), gradually expanding to meet the growing demand for AI infrastructure.

Expansion Plans and Technological Integration

The partnership is designed to encompass a comprehensive value chain, from technology collaboration to capital investment, as both companies seek to capture AI infrastructure opportunities across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. Naver's AI factory will be approximately four times the capacity of its largest hyper-scale data center, 'Gak Sejong', and is expected to house hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA's latest GPUs.

On June 8, Naver's board chairman, Lee Hae-jin, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang met at Naver's headquarters to discuss the project roadmap and strategies for joint market entry. Naver plans to utilize the 'Gak Sejong' facility as a launchpad, commencing operations with 55MW in the first half of 2027, followed by expansions to 100MW later that year and 200MW by 2028.

In addition to infrastructure development, the two companies will enhance their technical cooperation. Naver will leverage its extensive experience in building and operating large GPU clusters alongside its hyper-scale data center expertise. This will be integrated with NVIDIA's next-generation infrastructure platform, DSX. Moreover, Naver intends to contribute to NVIDIA's world foundation model, 'Cosmos', by developing a 'Seoul World Model' that utilizes its own spatial modeling and street view data.

Joining Global AI Initiatives

Naver has recently become a member of the 'NVIDIA NeMoTron Alliance', the first South Korean company to join this coalition of 12 global AI firms, including industry leaders such as Cursor, MistralAI, and Perplexity. By combining its data and learning capabilities with the outcomes of NeMoTron’s joint technology development, Naver aims to enhance the performance and global applicability of its AI model, HyperCLOVA X.

Lee Hae-jin emphasized the significance of this alliance, stating that it provides a concrete alternative for regions and countries worldwide to build independent sovereign AI capabilities. He highlighted that this partnership marks a pivotal moment for Naver, allowing it to elevate its technological infrastructure competitiveness on a global scale.

The collaboration between Naver and NVIDIA not only reflects the growing demand for AI solutions but also underscores the strategic importance of building robust AI infrastructure to support future innovations.
