Digital twin company Fluxity is utilizing drone and AI technology to manage odors at wastewater treatment facilities. Fluxity has begun the pilot operation of the 'AI Twin Odor Monitoring System' as part of the '2024 Testbed Seoul Demonstration Support Project' led by the Seoul Business Agency (SBA). The newly developed system was jointly developed by Fluxity and the Advanced Technology Safety Inspection Association, using drones and IoT sensors to collect odor data and combine it with digital twin-based three-dimensional spatial information.
Unlike traditional odor measurement methods that were limited to specific points such as site boundaries or emission outlets, this system uses drones to collect odor concentrations and meteorological information at different altitudes. This allows for tracking the dispersion paths of complex odors such as hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), ammonia (NH₃), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the atmosphere (odor plume).
The collected data is compared and analyzed against simulation results on a digital twin. Operators can thus confirm the current status and dispersion patterns of odors in three-dimensional space, transcending flat measurement values. A representative from Fluxity stated, "This demonstration aims to build a data system that can predict and explain odor dispersion beyond simple measurements," and added, "Based on the demonstration data, we plan to support the establishment of odor management policies for local governments and public facilities."
