Findus AI, an AI-based retail solution company, is accelerating retail innovation by successfully introducing its AI image recognition self-checkout 'Vision Checkout (VCO)' to a resort restaurant in the Niseko region of Hokkaido, Japan.
This demonstration experiment will be conducted at restaurant NEST813 within Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu through Findus AI's Japanese subsidiary, Findus AI Japan. Tokyu Fudosan, a major Japanese real estate developer, and Tokyu Resorts & Stays, a resort operator, are participating as strategic partners, increasing the likelihood of this project's success.
The Niseko region, which faces challenges due to labor shortages caused by a surge in tourists and long waiting times during peak season, is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency and customer convenience through Findus AI's solution. Through this demonstration, Findus AI plans to meticulously verify the operational efficiency and customer convenience of the AI self-checkout optimized for resort environments.
The introduced VCO system boasts innovative technology. Customers simply place items on the checkout counter without needing to scan barcodes. Seven stereo cameras accurately identify products through AI image recognition and process payments. According to the company, checkout is completed within 10 seconds with a high accuracy of approximately 99%, providing a fast and seamless shopping experience.
Findus AI aims to establish a Japanese subsidiary in 2025 and plans to actively contribute to solving Japan's chronic labor shortage problem. Based on this demonstration data, the company is exploring the expansion of its solutions to other resorts and various retail facilities in Japan in the future.
Meanwhile, Findus AI has already been recognized for its potential in the Japanese market, for example, by being selected for the global acceleration program 'Hokkaido F-Village X (HFX)' held in Hokkaido last September. This Niseko demonstration is expected to be an important stepping stone for penetrating the Japanese market.
