Wealice, a cold chain specialized company gaining attention for its innovative technology against climate change, has been selected as a key participant in Gyeonggi Province's Climate Tech Startup Incubation Program, preparing for its leap towards becoming a global unicorn. This program aims to discover and foster promising startups that possess advanced technologies, which are crucial for responding to climate change.
Based on its expertise accumulated in the field of real-time cold chain monitoring, Wealice has been recognized in this program for its unique technological capabilities in effectively managing refrigerants, including HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons), which are high-risk greenhouse gases with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) thousands of times higher than carbon dioxide. The cold chain industry, where refrigerants are essential for applications like cold storage, refrigeration equipment, and refrigerated trucks, has a significant impact on climate change. Wealice has continuously invested in developing related technologies to proactively address the global warming risks posed by these refrigerants.
Lee Seok-mu, CEO of Wealice, emphasized, "Currently, commonly used HFC refrigerants are subject to strong global regulations through the 'Kigali Amendment,' and with full-scale regulations commencing in Korea from 2024, refrigerant management solutions are now emerging as an indispensable element in the domestic market." He further expressed his ambition, stating, "Through this Gyeonggi Climate Tech Incubation Program, we will accelerate the commercialization of our refrigerant management solutions and, furthermore, it will serve as a practical turning point in responding to climate change and achieving carbon neutrality."
Meanwhile, Wealice is a promising 3-year-old startup that was previously selected as a top-performing company in the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' 'Preliminary Startup Package,' and is currently located in Pangyo Startup Zone, proving its potential.
