AI-based content localization specialist company Twigfarm has won the AI technology-based broadcast content localization and re-production support project, led by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Communications Agency (KCA). This project involves 6 domestic production companies such as ENA, KBS Media, and Studio Genie, as well as 8 overseas broadcasters such as SBS International and MBC America.
A total of 10,900 minutes of content from various genres, including dramas, entertainment shows, educational programs, and radio programs, will be re-produced into four languages: Korean, English, Spanish, and Chinese. It will consist of 4,900 minutes of domestic content and 6,000 minutes of overseas content, and the project will run from September to November this year.
Twigfarm will utilize its self-developed AI-based localization platform, ‘Letterworks’. By applying a hybrid process that combines speech recognition, machine translation, automatic sync adjustment, and post-editing by native speakers, it plans to shorten production costs and duration while maintaining high quality. Furthermore, by reflecting global OTT subtitle standards and SDH subtitle criteria for the hearing impaired, and providing speaker information, sound, and visual descriptions, it plans to enhance accessibility for global viewers.
The company has experience in executing video subtitle localization projects exceeding hundreds of thousands of minutes annually with partners such as SBS and ODK, and also has a track record of participating in AI data construction projects by the Ministry of Science and ICT and NIA, as well as delivering to global OTT platforms. In terms of security, it has obtained four types of international security certifications, including ISO 27001, 27017, 27018, and 27701, and possesses a robust security system with a data management system through DRM and encrypted storage, NDA agreements, and regular security training.
Choi Gyu-dong, Head of Twigfarm’s Division, stated, "Through this project, we will prove our AI technology-based localization capabilities, strengthen the influence of K-content in the global market with domestic and international broadcasters, and use this as an opportunity to accelerate the commercialization of AI localization technology."
