Point Mobile is gaining attention as it has succeeded in a performance turnaround based on its robust strategic partnership with Amazon. Recently, it secured an additional order worth 9.5 billion won for mobile computer products from Amazon, raising this year's cumulative orders from Amazon to 12 billion won. The company announced strong growth, projecting to achieve over 20 billion won in sales by year-end, an 85% increase compared to the previous year.
The main driving force behind this performance improvement is the expanded supply of its flagship product 'PM86', along with the new product 'TR54' set to be released in July. TR54 is a specialized product designed to meet all of Amazon's demanding specifications, including barcode scanner, WiFi 6E, RFID tag, and NFC, with full-scale supply scheduled for Q3. This demonstrates Point Mobile's market leadership through its customized technological capabilities.
The relationship between Point Mobile and Amazon began with an 8-year contract signed in 2019 for the supply of industrial mobile devices, totaling $200 million (approximately 284 billion won). Bolstered by Amazon's large-scale expansion of logistics warehouses during the pandemic, it recorded annual sales of 20 billion won in 2021, and after a brief lull, has shifted back to a sharp increase starting in 2024.
Amazon's aggressive investment plans provide continuous growth opportunities for Point Mobile. Amazon plans to invest approximately $15 billion in 80 new logistics centers in the U.S. by 2025, and Point Mobile plans to supply products primarily to these new facilities. Furthermore, as the 15-minute delivery 'quick commerce' service, which originated in India, expands to the Middle East and product supply extends to Amazon's offline affiliates such as Amazon Fresh, Amazon Go, and Whole Foods Market, Point Mobile's market dominance is expected to strengthen further.
Beyond its collaboration with Amazon, Point Mobile is solidifying its position across the entire industrial mobile device market. It is pursuing a strategy to expand its global market share by leveraging customized products optimized for various industries beyond logistics and retail, including manufacturing, energy, and public services, along with price competitiveness. Furthermore, it is exploring entry into 5G-based disaster safety networks and the K-defense market, and has presented a concrete roadmap to secure new future growth engines through industrial tablets and POS terminals currently under development.
Meanwhile, Amazon has steadily acquired stock options granted upon signing the supply contract with Point Mobile since 2020, and if fully exercised, it is expected to secure approximately 18% of the shares, becoming Point Mobile's second-largest shareholder. This is a significant indicator symbolizing the strong trust and long-term partnership between the two companies.
