Singapore-based blockchain mobility company MVL (엠블) is entering the U.S. ride-sharing market, spearheaded by its innovative 'zero-commission' model. MVL's ride-sharing service 'TADA' is making its official debut in the U.S. market through a strategic collaboration with the Driver Co-operative of Colorado (DCC).
Through this partnership, TADA will provide its no-commission system and operational know-how, while the DCC will operate the actual service, starting in Denver, Colorado. This presents an alternative to the chronic problem of high platform commissions in the U.S. ride-sharing market. Currently in the U.S., more than half of the fares paid by passengers are deducted as commissions, and in some regions, drivers' incomes fall below the minimum wage, revealing a serious pervasive structural problem.
Amidst this situation, the co-operative platform model, directly operated by drivers, is gaining attention as a new alternative. The DCC is an organization founded by drivers who have raised issues with the unfair revenue distribution structures of existing ride-sharing platforms like Uber and Lyft. Their top priority is to build a fair service model that ensures reasonable income and transparent fare distribution for drivers.
Launched in Singapore in 2018, TADA has successfully operated its unique business model, which does not charge commissions to drivers, for the past seven years. This ensures that drivers retain their full earnings for the work they do, and it became the driving force behind its rapid rise to become the second-largest platform in the Singaporean market. Currently, TADA is expanding its services to five Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Hong Kong, proving its effectiveness.
MVL expects this collaboration between TADA and DCC to be a significant turning point in resolving the chronic issues of the U.S. ride-sharing market and realizing fair revenue distribution for all market participants. Drivers affiliated with DCC in the Denver area are expected to enjoy tangible benefits such as increased income, enhanced transparency, and improved working conditions.
An MVL official expressed optimism, stating, "Considering the current situation in the U.S. market, TADA's zero-commission model will be a very attractive alternative for local drivers." They added, "We aim to officially launch the service after local testing within this year, and based on the successful operational know-how accumulated in Southeast Asia, we will ensure a successful entry into the U.S. market, starting with Denver, Colorado, while meticulously complying with the market structures and regulations of each U.S. state."
