**Kakao Style Achieves Record Performance in 2024! Turns Operating Profit to Black for the First Time in 5 Years – A Remarkable Feat**
Kakao Style, which operates the style commerce platform 'Zigzag', recorded historic achievements in 2024, successfully turning its operating profit to black for the first time in 5 years. Despite high inflation and an industry downturn, last year's transaction volume increased by 20% compared to the previous year, approaching 2 trillion won, and sales surpassed 200 billion won, demonstrating overwhelming growth.
Particularly noteworthy is that profitability significantly improved alongside robust top-line growth. Operating losses of 51.8 billion won in 2022 were substantially reduced to 19.8 billion won in 2023. In the same year, EBITDA of approximately 8 billion won was achieved, finally laying the cornerstone for an operating profit turnaround to black in 2024.
These achievements were driven by the proactive acquisition of new buyers and increased traffic. Last year, the number of new buyers on Zigzag surged by 40%, and monthly active users (MAU) recorded explosive growth, approaching 7 million in the second half of the year from a level of 4-5 million in the first half. Cumulative app installations surpassed 50 million, solidifying its unique position in the style commerce market.
The success was underpinned by innovative strategies such as big data and AI-based hyper-personalized recommendation services, successful product diversification into fashion, beauty, and lifestyle categories, and the expansion of 'Direct Delivery' (직진배송), which boosted purchase conversion rates for female customers in their teens, twenties, and thirties.
Kakao Style has announced aggressive business expansion for 2025 as well. Based on the company's vast customer behavior big data and advanced platform operational capabilities, it plans to evolve into a hyper-personalized platform and maximize customer experience by expanding the selection of 'Instagrammable' products. CFO Kim Young-gil emphasized, "2025 will be a turning point, presenting a new paradigm for 'K-commerce'," adding that the company will provide customers with the most enjoyable shopping experience and sellers with the effect of sales leverage through strong growth.
