Kakao Enterprise Deploys Nation's First Cloud-Native Smart City Data Hub in Jeonbuk

## Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, in collaboration with Kakao Enterprise, builds South Korea's first 'Cloud-Native' Smart City Data Hub Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province has partnered with Kakao Enterprise to open a new horizon for smart cities in South Korea. By successfully building a Smart City Data Hub platform based on Kakao Cloud, this will be recorded as the nation's first instance of fully adopting a cloud-native approach. This innovative platform is a core infrastructure that will dramatically strengthen Jeonbuk Province's capabilities to diagnose and solve urban problems by utilizing AI and data. The Smart City Data Hub is a core platform that systematically collects and manages vast amounts of data generated throughout the city, and based on this, provides data-driven urban operations and intelligent services. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Science and ICT have been leading joint research and development, and since 2022, have been supporting the digital transformation of metropolitan local governments through the 'Smart City Data Hub Distribution Project'. In particular, Jeonbuk Province's platform is pioneering in that it perfectly aligns with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 'Cloud-Native Centric Public Sector Information Resource Cloud Transition Plan', going beyond the 'lift-and-shift' method of simply migrating existing systems to the cloud, by adopting a 'cloud-native' architecture that maximizes the flexibility and efficiency of the cloud. This is an important turning point that firmly solidifies the foundation for future-oriented urban operations. As the core driving force of this platform, Kakao Enterprise has built essential components such as a data core, API gateway, and security module, along with a module for urban data collection, and an advanced analytics module that utilizes real data to generate and validate AI learning models. Furthermore, by first implementing two types of pilot services, including urban disaster prevention services and safety facility management services, it has ensured practicality that can immediately contribute to actual urban operations, going beyond simple technological implementation. Thus, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province has prioritized the safety of its citizens, keeping pace with the rapidly changing AI era, and firmly laid the foundation for a sustainable future city. The data hub, built at a metropolitan level, will create synergy in promoting smart city projects through linkage with 14 cities and counties within the province, and plans to integrate and manage various urban data through a smart urban safety network. In addition, the standardized data hub environment will enable data linkage with other local governments in the future, and is expected to increase the interconnectivity of smart cities nationwide. Kim Hyeong-woo, Director of the Construction and Transportation Bureau of Jeonbuk Province, stated, "We have built a cloud-native-based platform capable of integrally managing important data resources to be utilized in future technologies such as AI, autonomous driving, and smart farms," emphasizing that Kakao Enterprise's extensive experience and expertise played a crucial role. Lee Jae-han, Head of Kakao Enterprise's Cloud Business Division, stated, "We are leading the cloud-native transition in the public sector and continuously creating best practices." He added that as a leading cloud service provider in South Korea, Kakao Enterprise will lead successful digital transformation through prioritizing cloud-native adoption that reflects the characteristics of local governments.
