Pioneering New Frontiers in Innovative Chronic Wound Treatment: Eleccell Wins 'Product of the Year' at MEDevice Boston 2025
Medical device startup Eleccell made a strong impression on the global stage by winning the prestigious 'Franklin Visionary Award – Product of the Year' at 'MEDevice Boston 2025,' the largest medical device exhibition in the Eastern US held in Boston, USA. This award was presented at a prestigious event that draws attention from over 300 companies and more than 4,000 industry professionals annually, making its significance even greater.
Eleccell's award-winning product is a chronic wound treatment patch that applies an original self-powering technology inspired by plant transpiration. This innovative patch utilizes exudate from the wound site to self-generate microcurrents during the water evaporation process. This technology, which operates without external power or charging, is designed to promote cell regeneration while reducing reactive oxygen species to alleviate inflammation and inhibit tissue damage.
In particular, it can be applied to difficult chronic wound treatments such as diabetic foot ulcers and bedsores, possessing the potential to significantly improve patients' quality of life. Eleccell explained that the product is made with a paper-based power system, which lowers manufacturing costs and disposal burdens, and is also highly regarded for its sustainability.
CEO Han Hyeong-seop stated, "Existing chronic wound treatments have burdened patients with complex equipment and high costs. Our patch, which can be easily applied like a regular dressing, allows patients to manage their wounds themselves, significantly increasing medical accessibility." He further added, "Building on this award, we will accelerate our efforts to penetrate the global market."
Despite being a nascent company established in 2024, Eleccell, based on biomimetic technology, is rapidly growing by developing wound treatment and sarcopenia prevention solutions. Having moved into Seoul BioHub and receiving support from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology's 'Korea-Boston Bridge Center Program,' Eleccell's accelerated entry into Boston is drawing attention.
