Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group and Hylocal, an AI interpretation and translation specialist company, have successfully completed a pilot project for an AI safety education solution targeting foreign workers, opening new horizons in construction site safety management. Hylocal was selected for the pilot track of Samsung C&T's open innovation program ‘2025 FutureScape’, and for three months starting last July, verified the on-site applicability of the ‘LLM-based real-time interpretation & translation and industrial safety education AI tutor’.
This pilot was conducted targeting foreign workers belonging to Samsung C&T construction sites and partner companies, providing AI-based multilingual translation in 40 languages, real-time image translation, and customized safety education AI tutor functions, focusing on resolving language barriers.
The pilot results were very positive. The participation rate of foreign workers in the AI tutor solution recorded over 70%, and both managers and workers showed high satisfaction, scoring over 4 out of 5 points. In particular, content satisfaction among workers from three major countries, including Vietnam, Nepal, and Uzbekistan, achieved the target, proving the practical effectiveness of the solution. From a technical perspective, speech recognition and translation accuracy each recorded over 80%, enhancing usability on site. Managers actively used image and AI interpretation/translation functions more than 5 times a month, and workers consistently took safety education through the AI tutor more than once a week, showing active usage patterns.
During the pilot period, Hylocal meticulously analyzed country-specific content reactions, focusing on improving content to reflect language-specific expression comprehension and cultural differences. They managed major error cases to be fewer than 5, and made user-centric improvement efforts, such as actively reflecting over 80% of feedback from managers and workers.
Hylocal CEO Yoon Jeong-ho stated that through this pilot, they confirmed that AI technology can effectively resolve language barriers at construction sites and become an essential tool for safety, and that they would expand the solution to more construction sites. Hyung Si-won, Executive Vice President at Samsung C&T, also expressed that Hylocal's AI solution significantly improved the efficiency of safety education for foreign workers, and expressed anticipation that continuous cooperation in the future would further elevate the level of safety management at construction sites.
Based on its experience operating a language exchange platform with over 2 million global users, Hylocal, which has been developing AI solutions specialized for industrial sites, plans to actively expand its business to large construction companies and manufacturers, leveraging this successful pilot as a stepping stone.
