Global sports and entertainment blockchain company Chiliz and SBI Digital Asset Holdings are establishing a joint venture, ‘SBI Chiliz,’ to full-scale the global expansion and Web3 transition of Japanese sports fandom. Following the strategic partnership between the two companies last year, through the establishment of this joint venture, Japanese sports fans will be able to access fan tokens of approximately 70 global clubs partnered with Chiliz, including FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain FC, and Tottenham Hotspur.
SBI Chiliz is expected to play a crucial role as a bridge connecting Japanese sports entertainment with the global market, going beyond mere fan token distribution. It plans to pursue various projects to disseminate Japan's unique sports content onto the world stage by supporting the issuance of fan tokens for Japanese professional sports clubs and expanding fan experiences using Web3-based innovative products and services, as well as blockchain solutions.
This vision and concrete plans were revealed through an official side event at the ‘TEAMZ Web3/AI Summit 2025’ recently held in Tokyo. Chiliz Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) Max Rabinovitch and SBI Chiliz CEO Koichi Kano participated in a panel discussion, engaging in in-depth discussions on the theme of 'The Future of Sports Fandom.' They comprehensively illuminated SBI Chiliz's business strategy and the outlook of the Web3 sports market, including how fan tokens are redefining the connection between global sports fans and clubs through blockchain technology, the redefinition of fan engagement, opportunities for tokenized communities, and challenges in the global expansion process.
Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of Chiliz, expressed his expectations, stating, "Sports is a core content industry in Japan, and through fan tokens, sports IP that has grown in Japan can be actively connected with the global market," adding, "This will enable Japanese fans to participate more actively in the global Web3 sports ecosystem."
Currently, Chiliz is distributing over 70 fan tokens through Socios.com and is leading the Web3 transition of the global sports market based on the Chiliz Chain. SBI Chiliz will also participate in the node operation of this Chiliz Chain, playing a key role in strengthening blockchain infrastructure and governance within Japan.
