2024 First Half Job Market Dominated by Business Majors! Jasoseol.com Data Analysis Reveals In this year's first half new graduate recruitment market, the university students who showed the most fervent passion were none other than 'business majors'. According to an analysis of cover letter data from January to March 2024 by the new graduate recruitment platform Jasoseol.com, business administration majors overwhelmingly took the top spot, submitting a total of 102,319 cover letters. This figure is more than double that of mechanical engineering majors, who ranked second with 43,290 submissions. The background for business administration majors' highly proactive job-seeking activities appears to be a complex interplay of several factors. The broad scope of business administration, encompassing fields such as finance, accounting, marketing, human resources management, and business strategy, acts as a strength, allowing them to apply for a wide variety of roles upon employment. Since there are many job postings they can apply for, it's a natural structure where the number of cover letters written inevitably increases. Furthermore, the 'major-agnostic' recruitment trend, recently spreading among large corporations and public enterprises, also served as an opportunity for business administration majors. This seems to reflect a strategy to actively appeal to their unique expertise and strengths through their cover letters, based on their broad knowledge. Following business administration, majors in mechanical engineering, computer science/computer engineering, electronic engineering, and economics recorded high ranks in cover letter submissions, signaling fierce competition in the job market. By university, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies submitted the most cover letters with a total of 23,422, followed by Kyung Hee University, Chung-Ang University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Inha University. The overall dynamism of the job market was also notable. Jasoseol.com's job posting views increased by 19% compared to the same period last year, reaching approximately 39.9 million, and the number of cover letters written also grew by 15% to about 740,000. This is interpreted as a positive sign, indicating that even amidst economic stagnation and a challenging recruitment environment, new graduate job seekers are not giving up, but are actively exploring their career paths and knocking on the doors of employment. A Jasoseol.com representative stated, "The colder the new graduate recruitment market gets, the more passionate job seekers tend to become," adding, "We will continue to introduce systematic and convenient job preparation features to help job seekers get accepted into their target companies."
