Book IPS Establishes AI & UCI-Powered Educational Content Copyright Management System
Edutech company Book IP, which operates the educational content platform ‘SOLVOOK,’ has taken an innovative step in cooperation with the Korea Copyright Commission that will change the future of the educational content industry. It has successfully completed the ‘UCI Dissemination, Expansion, and Utilization Model Support Project,’ which standardizes the copyright management, usage, and settlement methods for educational content by combining Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the National Standard Content Identification System (UCI). Through this project, Book IP adopted AI technology as its core driving force. It not only precisely analyzed the similarity of knowledge units in educational content and traced their sources but also built an AI-based metadata classification system, bringing innovation to content management. In particular, it clearly distinguished AI-generated content from existing copyrighted works and established a pioneering system for issuing UCIs even to such AI content, proactively responding to copyright issues in the rapidly changing AI era. Furthermore, by applying an advanced DRM (Digital Rights Management) model, including invisible watermark technology, it completed a robust protection system that effectively tracks and blocks illegal copying and unauthorized distribution. Three years of effort have been proven by overwhelming results. It issued UCIs to a total of 1.68 million items, far exceeding its target, and recorded an average of over 640,000 active transactions per month and cumulative usage data reaching 8.3 million cases, setting a new standard for the distribution of educational content. Building on this success, Book IP is further advancing its AI-based content relationship analysis technology. It is developing an integrated management system that handles all educational materials—including textbooks, items (questions), and AI-generated content—from searching and recommending to settling payments, all at the content unit level. Starting with the supply case to the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education’s AI-ON, it is promoting expansion to public education institutions nationwide and actively supporting the establishment of standards across the education sector and industry by distributing the ‘UCI Utilization Educational Content Distribution Guide.’ Co-CEO Kim Kwan-baek emphasized, "Educational content in the AI era must be identified and managed as data units, not mere files," and stated that through technological standards combining UCI and AI, they would simultaneously realize the two core values of copyright protection and legitimate distribution of educational content. Book IP is leading the convergence of AI and copyright technology through its own platform, ‘SOLVOOK,’ presenting a new paradigm in the edutech market.
