A startup, ATBLab, born embracing KEPCO's innovative DNA, has proudly listed its name in the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' ambitious '2025 Super Gap Startup 1000+' project, emerging as a key player to lead the future of battery technology. On the 14th, ATBLab stated that its unique real-time monitoring, diagnosis, and operating system solution, which maximizes battery safety and efficiency, was the core driver of this selection.
This is evidence that the government highly valued the originality of ATBLab's technology and its potential for expansion into the global market. The ‘Super Gap Startup 1000+’ project is a national support program that intensively fosters startups possessing super-gap technologies in strategic industrial sectors responsible for the nation's future, such as system semiconductors, future automobiles, AI·big data, and eco-friendly energy.
ATBLab provides state-of-the-art solutions for the safe and efficient operation of batteries installed in electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems (ESS), and is expected to play a crucial role in alleviating growing social concerns due to recent consecutive fire accidents. Furthermore, it is anticipated to establish itself as an indispensable key company in building a sustainable circular economy, including the remanufacturing, reuse, and recycling of used batteries.
With this project selection, ATBLab will receive unprecedented government support totaling up to 1.6 billion won (600 million for commercialization, 1 billion for R&D) over the next three years. Using this as a stepping stone, it is expected to accelerate its technological advancement, attract investment, and dramatically accelerate its entry into the global market.
Choi Jin-hyeok, CEO of ATBLab, stated, "Leveraging this selection for the support program, we will actively expand the technology successfully piloted in KEPCO's ESS facilities to domestic and international ESS and EV markets, and dedicate our full efforts to technological advancement by integrating AI technology." He further expressed his firm aspiration, saying, "We will overcome challenges faced by the secondary battery industry, such as fire accidents and the EV chasm, with precise battery diagnosis technology, and become a vanguard leading the resurgence of K-battery."
