Archisketch-Urbanbase IP Reshapes 3D Interior Market

AI proptech company Archisketch has secured an unrivaled position in the domestic 3D interior market by acquiring all intellectual property (IP) from its competitor Urbanbase. With this acquisition, Archisketch now owns a total of approximately 100 core 3D interior IPs, combining them with its existing patents. As Urbanbase was in the process of ceasing operations in 2024, CEO Ha Jin-woo requested Archisketch to acquire its IPs. Archisketch stated that it magnanimously accepted this request as a partner in the same industry, for the purpose of protecting the ecosystem. This signifies more than a mere acquisition of a competitor's assets; it is a decision made with the sustainability of the entire industry in mind. Consequently, Archisketch has become the undisputed leader in the domestic 3D interior market and plans to engage in legal and technical competition with foreign software that may violate domestic laws. However, concerns may also arise that one company's monopolization of most of the industry's core IPs could hinder market competition, slow down technological innovation, and raise barriers to new entry. Established in 2014, Archisketch has steadily accumulated technological expertise in 3D interior simulation and spatial data automation, based on AI, 3D modeling, rendering, and augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies. It provides an integrated solution connecting web-based 3D floor plan composition, high-quality rendering, and direct purchase, and has established a strong foothold in the B2B market through collaborations with global builders and furniture brands. It also actively contributes to building the industry ecosystem through fostering interior designer communities and holding seminars. CEO Lee Joo-sung is further solidifying his leadership within the industry by taking office as the chairman of the AI Interior Council of the Korea Proptech Forum this year. CEO Lee emphasized that this acquisition will serve as an opportunity for Archisketch to leap forward as a unique company encompassing all domestic 3D interior technologies, proving Archisketch's technological leadership and business stability to clients, partners, and investors.
