Naver Webtoon's AI chatbot, 'Character Chat,' has been found to play a pivotal role in increasing consumption of original webtoons. Launched in June 2024, Character Chat learns the speech patterns, personalities, and work information of webtoon characters to provide a conversational experience to users. It currently records 3.35 million unique users and 70 million messages, suggesting a new trend in digital content consumption. Internal analysis confirmed that the experience of using Character Chat directly leads to an increase in original work consumption. Users of the 'Seol Hyo-rim' Character Chat from showed a 97% increase in original work viewing sessions, a 22% increase in paying users, and a 44% increase in sales revenue when comparing one week before and after its launch. Similarly, users of the 'Love' Character Chat from <+99 Reinforced Wooden Stick> recorded a 77% increase in original work viewing sessions, a 12% increase in paying users, and a 31% increase in sales revenue, demonstrating the tendency for interaction with characters to lead to actual content consumption. Furthermore, Character Chat users also showed enhanced activity across the entire Naver Webtoon app. A comparison of activity metrics over two months showed increases in app visit days (8%), work viewing days (7%), number of works viewed (11%), number of new works viewed (32%), number of viewing sessions (8%), and payment amount (4%). The significant increase in the number of new works viewed, in particular, suggests that Character Chat contributes to discovering new content and strengthening platform loyalty. Based on these positive analysis results, Naver Webtoon plans to expand Character Chat. Currently expanded to 12 characters, Character Chat is attempting functional evolution beyond simple conversations. The 'Cheonryeong' chatbot from offers a fortune-telling function utilizing the work's settings, while the 'Terdeo' chatbot from introduces a system where conversational attitude and honorifics change according to intimacy, adding depth to interactions.
