AI financial specialist firm Affinit is partnering with Professor Lee Sang-hak's team at Seoul National University's Graduate School of Data Science to jointly develop an innovative 'AI-based financial framework' aimed at enhancing financial inclusion in developing countries. This collaboration will integrate Affinit's global market experience, including in India, with Seoul National University's deep research capabilities, focusing on building next-generation AI-based financial solutions for markets with high financial growth potential.
The joint development goal of both parties is to establish a robust foundation for providing customized financial services to the financially underserved populations in developing countries, leveraging AI and data technology. In particular, the 'AI Financial Policy Optimization and Risk Management Engine' that both parties will focus on will utilize machine learning to precisely analyze and predict local macroeconomic trends, customer behavior patterns, and the volatility of financial product portfolios. Through this, they plan to improve the quality of financial services, efficiently manage potential risks such as default rates, and simultaneously ensure the sustainability and profitability of services.
Cho Seong-joon, Director of Business Strategy at Affinit, emphasized that this collaboration holds strategic significance by pursuing both social contribution through increased service accessibility for the financially underserved and sustainable growth through improved business profitability. He added, "Through joint research with Seoul National University, we will lay the technological foundation to expand the AI financial platform to more countries." Currently, Affinit's 'AI Finance Decisioning Platform,' with its Alternative Credit Scoring (ACS) engine at its core, is continuously advancing service models specialized for each country and region. As it aims for future business expansion into various financial service areas such as insurance, investment, and credit cards, this research is expected to further solidify its foundation.
Seoul National University contributes to this research with its advanced data science capabilities, including causal inference, decision prediction, and time series modeling (GRU, TCN), as well as its expertise in developing policy evaluation and risk management algorithms in abnormal data environments. In particular, it plans to promote practical technology transfer by designing policy engines and financial frameworks that actively respond to macroeconomic changes, and by providing open datasets and source codes as research outcomes for real-world business application.
Professor Lee Sang-hak of Seoul National University's Graduate School of Data Science stated that this research will focus on developing algorithms and analytical tools that achieve policy stability and efficiency, unwavering even amidst the complex economic volatility of developing countries. He presented a global vision, stating, "We will spare no effort in collaborating with Affinit to ensure that a global financial service platform used by people worldwide can emerge from Korea."
