Rebellion Sets Sights on NVIDIA in 5 Years! From Unicorn to Global Stage.
AI Semiconductor Unicorn Rebellion Sets Sights on Global Stage! Beyond KOSDAQ, Heading for NASDAQ AI semiconductor startup Rebellion, celebrating its 5th anniversary, has announced a global expansion strategy, presenting a bold vision for the future of South Korean deep tech. Rebellion, which has emerged as a unicorn company with a current valuation of approximately 2 trillion Korean won, is preparing for its IPO, targeting a KOSDAQ listing application next year, and ultimately revealed its ambition to conquer the global market by entering NASDAQ. CEO Park Sung-hyun described the past five years as "a period where we were chosen as a next-generation NPU partner in the global AI infrastructure market." Starting with KT in 2022, Rebellion attracted consecutive investments from leading global investors such as Saudi Aramco, France's Korelya, Arm, and Kindred Ventures, proving its technological prowess and market potential. The participation of strategic investors like Samsung Venture Investment, Samsung Securities, and Taiwan's Pegatron Venture Capital further solidifies Rebellion's global influence. Rebellion's key achievements include the mass production and real-world application of its first-generation NPU 'ATOM,' and the merger with SK Sapion Korea, which reshaped the domestic AI semiconductor market. 'ATOM' was applied to the first data center in Korea, and 'ATOM Max' was successfully commercialized by being actually integrated into SK Telecom's A.dot call recording summary service. Furthermore, the development of the 'REBEL-Quad' big chip, boasting performance on par with NVIDIA's flagship GPUs, clearly demonstrates that Rebellion is emerging not merely as a follower, but as a frontrunner. Rebellion has focused on 'AI inference' rather than AI training, building a practical business model capable of generating revenue, and actively contributes to the open-source ecosystem by participating as an official member of the PyTorch Foundation. Marshall Choi, Chief Business Officer (CBO), who joined in October, characterized Rebellion as "an NVIDIA alternative with both technological prowess and product completeness," emphasizing Rebellion's advantage of entering the market at a strategic time with the analogy, "the second mouse gets the cheese, not the first." CEO Park Sung-hyun asserted, "Our competitor is NVIDIA," and declared his ambition, saying, "Even if not immediately, our vision is to step into the ring with NVIDIA in 5 or 10 years, compete, and capture some market share." In July 2024, Rebellion selected Samsung Securities as its lead underwriter and officially commenced its listing procedures. CFO Shin Sung-kyu presented a detailed roadmap, stating, "We are currently in our second year of designated auditing, and aim to list on KOSDAQ first with an IPO application target next year, followed by an entry into NASDAQ." Through collaborations with global semiconductor companies and sovereign AI funds, Rebellion is accelerating technological advancement and business expansion within domestic and international AI ecosystems, including the Aramco data center. The industry is closely watching Rebellion's moves as it pledges to become a key player in global AI infrastructure, carrying the pride of South Korean deep tech.
