Amidst the fervent atmosphere for innovative technology startups in Daegu, MediesR won the prestigious Grand Prize at the '2025 Daegu Region Unicore Technology Startup Idea Competition,' opening new horizons in future medical imaging technology. Among the 6 teams that advanced to the finals, overcoming fierce competition of 3.6:1, MediesR (CEO Choi Yong-seok) showcased an 'innovative solution that converts medical imaging device output into 16x high-resolution video,' receiving unanimous praise from the judges.
This competition, successfully held on July 11th at Kyungpook National University, was co-hosted by Daegu Metropolitan City, Kyungpook National University, and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), marking its second anniversary this year. As the previous year's competition produced actual startup success stories and established itself as a gateway for technology startups, this year's competition focused on discovering more advanced technology items and providing follow-up support.
Out of a total of 22 applicant teams, the 6 finalist teams, carefully selected based on business commercialization strategy, technical feasibility, marketability, and creativity, took to the stage after strengthening their IR pitching capabilities through about a month of intensive consulting. They successfully demonstrated their respective potential and commercialization possibilities.
Choi Yong-seok, CEO of MediesR and winner of the Grand Prize, received the Daegu Metropolitan City Mayor's Award and digital products worth 2 million KRW as a prize, stating, "I am delighted to receive such a meaningful award, and I will strive even harder for technological advancement." In addition, other teams that showcased innovative ideas in various categories, including the Kyungpook National University President's Award, also received recognition.
The competition does not end with just the awards. All finalist teams receive practical startup and growth support, including prototype production, business model advancement, and investment attraction linkage. In particular, customized follow-up programs such as advanced pitching material development and tailored promotional video production support for participation in 'GIF 2025' help them successfully enter the market.
Park Chun-wook, the General Research Director of the Kyungpook National University-ETRI Daegyeong Region Academia-Industry Platform Project Group, stated, "We will actively support promising startup teams discovered through this competition to lead to actual startups and investment attraction," and expressed his ambition, saying, "We will strive to ensure that the Kyungpook National University-ETRI Unicore Technology Startup Competition develops into a key gateway that leads the global startup ecosystem beyond the region." Through this competition, the growth of innovative technology companies that will lead Daegu's future industries is highly anticipated.
