Metaverse-based edutech platform 'ZEP', following its entry into Indonesia, has officially launched in the Thai market, accelerating its efforts to conquer the Southeast Asian edutech market. This entry into Thailand, achieved in just over a month, is expected to be a significant milestone in ZEP's global expansion strategy.
ZEP, which officially launched its service in Thailand on the 19th, aims to penetrate the local market with 'ZEP QUIZ' as its flagship product. ZEP highly values the potential of the Southeast Asian market, which boasts strong educational fervor, high internet penetration, and a large school-age population. In particular, as a 'mobile-first' country, Thailand has an environment with approximately 129 million mobile subscribers and a penetration rate of 188% as of 2022. As the Thai government actively supports the introduction of digital education and the establishment of smart classrooms within public education, the growth potential of the edutech market is very high.
Recently, in the Thai edutech market, the 'gamification' trend, which integrates game elements into learning to enhance engagement and enjoyment, is gaining attention. ZEP QUIZ, with its characteristic of maximizing the fun of learning by solving quizzes in a game format, is expected to perfectly align with this local trend and attract significant user interest.
In fact, ZEP confirmed market viability by conducting a local beta service in Thailand for one month last February. During this period, ZEP QUIZ recorded 500,000 cumulative users and 1 million play sessions in Thailand, proving explosive local interest and significant achievements. A local teacher who participated in the beta service gave positive feedback, saying, "Thanks to ZEP QUIZ, students participated joyfully without finding studying boring, and it was very convenient as it offered quiz creation features along with waiting areas where students could gather."
ZEP has also put considerable effort into localizing its service for successful establishment in the Thai market. In addition to official Thai language support, it has added traditional Thai costumes as avatar outfits and provides local-themed maps such as temples and night markets for free, fostering cultural resonance. It plans to continuously introduce customized Thai maps and objects in the future.
Kim Sang-yeop, CEO of ZEP, emphasized, "The Thai government has a strong commitment to public education innovation, pushing policies like 'one student, one tablet,' which leads to expanded adoption of ICT education and digital tools, thus presenting significant growth potential for the edutech market." He further stated his ambition, "We will not stop expanding into the global market, using our entries into Indonesia and Thailand as stepping stones." Through these strategic moves, ZEP will emerge as a leader in the global edutech market, beyond Southeast Asia.
