As preventing safety accidents at events where large crowds gather has emerged as a national challenge, real-time crowd density management solutions utilizing advanced technology are gaining attention as a new alternative. In particular, the IoT-based crowd control system successfully operated by IT company Lfin at the Yeouido Cherry Blossom Festival in Seoul is drawing attention as an innovative powerhouse in the field of public safety.
The 19th Yeouido Cherry Blossom Festival, held for five days from April 4th, concluded successfully without a single safety accident, despite attracting numerous visitors. This success is largely attributed to the significant role played by Lfin's self-developed 'Crowd Density Analysis and Control Platform'.
Lfin's platform precisely tracks the movement of people within event venues using LiDAR sensors and its self-developed wireless scanners. A key strength of this system is that it overcomes the limitations of existing CCTV-based control methods. Industry experts have pointed out that traditional CCTVs struggle with accurate density measurement due to weather conditions, blind spots, and people overlapping. Lfin's solution addresses these issues and is receiving positive evaluations, especially for significantly reducing privacy concerns by not directly photographing individuals.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government and Yeongdeungpo-gu actively collaborated with Lfin to prevent crowd-related accidents that have recently occurred nationwide. This collaboration is being hailed as an exemplary model showcasing how advanced technology can contribute to enhancing public safety.
Park Young-kyung, CEO of Lfin, explained, "As social demand for crowd management and control increases, we proactively developed a platform with a differentiated approach. Through this demonstration at the Cherry Blossom Festival, we have thoroughly verified its performance and utility. Starting from the second half of this year, we will accelerate full-scale commercialization targeting local governments and public institutions nationwide."
Established in 2019, Lfin possesses hybrid location authentication technology as a core competency. It has been recognized for its technological prowess, including receiving the Postmaster General's Award at an event co-hosted by D.CAMP (Banks Foundation for Young Entrepreneurs) and Korea Post. In 2023, it introduced an AI image-based facility management service, and in 2024, it further developed and launched its mobile attendance management service 'Check Here', continuously expanding its service areas and pursuing innovation.
