Korea's innovative startup Watt has joined hands with Yamato Transport, a giant in the Japanese logistics market, to usher in the era of 'robot delivery'. Watt has exported its advanced robot delivery solution to Yamato Transport, taking a significant step towards building an unmanned delivery system across Japan. The cooperation between the two companies goes beyond a simple contract, signifying the strengthening of a strategic partnership for future logistics innovation.
Last July, Watt demonstrated its autonomous driving technology and practicality through a successful pilot operation at Yamato Transport's Tokyo headquarters. Following the MOU signing in September, both sides have deepened their cooperation by meticulously refining operating scenarios optimized for Japan's unique multi-family housing environment and localizing the solutions. With the finalization of this solution supply contract, the strategic cooperation between the two companies for the introduction and demonstration of robot delivery solutions has officially commenced.
Yamato Transport's choice of Watt is rooted in Watt's autonomous delivery technology, which demonstrates excellent performance even in complex indoor environments. This perfectly aligns with Yamato Transport's goals of developing next-generation logistics technology and maximizing operational efficiency through robots. Watt's technology goes beyond the limitations of unmanned parcel delivery, holding the potential to change the paradigm of existing logistics systems.
Watt's robot delivery solution is scheduled to begin its first demonstration operations in high-end residential complexes and high-rise office buildings in Tokyo in 2025. During this period, Yamato Transport plans to collaborate with major Japanese construction companies to practically verify the in-building robot parcel delivery model. This demonstrates the potential for robot delivery to move beyond mere trials and establish itself as an everyday service.
Choi Jae-won, CEO of Watt, expressed his aspiration, saying, "Through this cooperation, we will strive to enhance the completeness of services optimized for the local Japanese environment and ensure Watt's robot parcel delivery system successfully settles into the Japanese market by organically linking with Yamato Transport's extensive transportation system."
Meanwhile, Watt's latest achievement, having been selected as part of the 7th cohort of 'IBK Changgong,' an innovation startup nurturing program, is evaluated as an exemplary case of domestic innovative technology gaining recognition in overseas markets. This cooperation between Watt and Yamato Transport will be an important milestone, opening a new chapter in the future logistics industry.
