Korea's leading commercial waste collection service 'UpBox' has successfully launched in Jakarta, Indonesia, opening the door for global expansion.
On the 4th, UpBox successfully held a waste collection campaign commemorating 'Environment Day' at Gandaria City Mall in Jakarta, together with the Jakarta Environment Agency, Pakuwon Group (Indonesia's leading commercial real estate company), and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI) Jakarta office. This campaign aimed to inform local citizens about the importance of proper food waste separation and legal waste disposal, and to directly showcase UpBox's efficient waste management solutions. Through the campaign, UpBox installed collection bins within Pakuwon facilities, demonstrated waste collection, and operated a joint promotional booth, garnering significant interest from citizens and stakeholders.
This event is regarded as a significant turning point, announcing UpBox's official entry into the Indonesian market, and a signal for its expansion into the Asian market. UpBox had already commenced its services in large-scale mixed-use commercial facilities operated by Pakuwon Group in February, officially launching its local business. Based on the data-driven waste collection and transportation know-how and systems accumulated in Korea, it is simultaneously enhancing the management efficiency and sustainability of Pakuwon Group's facilities.
Close cooperation with Pakuwon Group, a company listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange and a Top 3 commercial real estate firm, increases UpBox's potential for local success, and is expected to lead to expanded cooperation with major facilities within Jakarta, building on this campaign.
Kim Keun-ho, CEO of RECO (UpBox's operating company), stated his aspiration, saying, "We will prove in Indonesia that the waste management standards and operational know-how accumulated in Korea can now become a global standard." He added, "UpBox will continue to grow as a key partner providing practical solutions to environmental issues in various Asian countries."
