Unity (NYSE: U), a leading company in real-time 3D content creation, successfully concluded its global developer conference ‘Unite Seoul 2025,’ held at COEX on the 15th, with over 2,900 domestic and international developers and game industry professionals in attendance. Under the banner of ‘Create Today, Grow Tomorrow,’ the event captured the attention of participants with diverse content, including the unveiling of next-generation development solutions, specialized technical sessions, an exhibition of indie projects, and networking programs.
Matt Bromberg, CEO and President of Unity, who made his first visit to Korea since taking office, stated, “The Unity platform is designed to ensure a free creative environment for developers,” and emphasized that a key goal is to provide a balance between stability and innovation, quality and versatility across various platforms such as mobile, PC, and console. He added that the Korean market holds “special significance” in Unity’s history, having continuously drawn inspiration from the innovation of the Korean game industry for nearly 15 years. Song Min-seok, CEO of Unity Korea, also expressed gratitude to the developer community for pioneering creative possibilities amidst numerous challenges, stating, “The passion of creators is the driving force behind the growth of the Korean game industry,” and promised to continue listening to developers’ opinions and become a trusted partner based on a deep understanding of the Korean market.
Adam Smith, SVP of Product for Unity Engine, announced major updates for Unity 6.1, scheduled for release later this month, and a roadmap for building AI-powered workflows. He revealed that in addition to Unity 6.1, which supports high frame rates, improved device performance, and streamlined optimization processes, Unity plans to enhance player experience stability by adding real-time diagnostic insights features later this year. Trevor Campbell, Head of Unity APAC Demand Ad Business, introduced Unity Grow’s core strategy, emphasizing the competitiveness and differentiated strengths of its solutions for app business growth, attracting significant attention from industry professionals.
A total of 48 technical sessions were held at the conference, with topics related to XR and MR attracting particular interest. Sessions such as ‘Developing Real-time Motion Tracking in XR/Mobile Environments’ by Kim Han-eul, Unity Senior Software Engineer, and ‘What We Should Consider in MR Game Development’ by Lee Woo-seong, Division Director at Skonec Entertainment, received high praise from attendees for their in-depth technical content. Sessions where developers from major game companies like Com2uS and Neople presented real-world Unity-based case studies also garnered significant attention. Notably, 'Custom SSAO Cases Using Unity 6 Render Graph' and 'Unity Custom Shadow Solution Development Cases' by Com2uS developers Oh Min-seon and Kim Jin-hong, and 'From PC to Mobile: The Technical Transition Process of Dungeon & Fighter' by Neople Technical Director Seo Nam-hyeok, were highlighted as impressive presentations.
Many attendees also focused on sessions related to rapidly growing Virtual YouTubers (VTubers). Professor Dong Geu-ra-mi of Kaywon University of Art & Design presented a case of convergence between academic research and industrial application through the ‘Virtual YouTuber (VTuber) Project’ operated in industry-academia cooperation, while Seo Kuk-han, CEO of Dooribun, attracted attention by introducing various examples spanning stage performances and broadcast entertainment content, along with Unity-based broadcasting features, on the theme of ‘Metaverse Broadcast Entertainment Content Revitalized by Virtual YouTubers.’
The ‘Made with Unity Zone’ showcased over 20 games developed with Unity, drawing active participation from attendees. ‘Found Cat – Lost Cats and Hidden Pictures (Hidden Cat),’ developed by HYEONU, won first place with the most votes, and is slated to be a nominee for this year’s ‘Unity Awards 2025.’
