Ridi Ramps Up IP Expansion with Short Drama 'Kanta'
RIDI Accelerates K-Content IP Expansion with 'Kanta': An Innovative Strategy Spanning Entertainment and Drama Global content company RIDI is garnering industry attention as it accelerates its K-content IP (intellectual property) expansion strategy through its short-drama platform, 'Kanta'. With a unique approach that reinterprets existing popular entertainment and drama formats into short-form dramas, it is breaking down genre boundaries and offering new content experiences. This strategy by RIDI announced a successful start, receiving an enthusiastic response from its first released work. In particular, the legendary episode 'Salmokji' from MBC's popular Sunday entertainment show 'Midnight Horror Story' was adapted into the short-drama 'The Swamp That Eats People: The Vengeance of the Water Ghost' and pre-released in the Japanese market, building significant anticipation. This work, co-produced by MBC and CAC Corporation, is evaluated as a creative attempt that goes beyond simple format conversion, re-birthing entertainment IP with drama grammar. Earlier, 'Electronic Brain Section Chief Jung', an office action drama starring comedian Jung Jun-ha and Yunho from the group ATEEZ, released in August, garnered an explosive response, ranking #1 on the Kanta platform on the day of its release. Notably, it significantly contributed to platform activation, with the number of new users increasing by approximately 200% compared to the previous day, proving the far-reaching impact of short-dramas. On the 12th, 'The Vampire Tutor Has Moved In', a fantasy revenge drama starring actress Kang Ji-young from KARA, is set to be released, drawing attention as another highly anticipated work. Its intense story, featuring vampires, is expected to captivate global audiences. A RIDI official emphasized, "Kanta is not merely discovering new IPs, but is dramatically expanding its genre spectrum by reinterpreting existing popular IPs into short-dramas," adding, "Through IP diversification and localization strategies, we will provide global users with an even richer K-content experience." This clearly demonstrates RIDI's vision to seek new growth engines for K-content and its commitment to conquering the global market.
