Realworld Unveils Retail Robot RX Project at KDDI Summit 2025
Physical AI innovation company Realworld (RLWRLD) is bringing an innovative breath of fresh air to the Japanese retail market. Recently, at 'KDDI Summit 2025', partnering with KDDI and Lawson, they announced the 'Retail RX (Robotics Transformation)' project, presenting a blueprint for future-oriented store operations. This project is a significant case where Realworld's physical AI technology is actually applied to the Japanese retail and service industries. Realworld participated as a key partner in KDDI and Lawson's AI·DX strategy to improve store operational efficiency by 30% by 2030. Realworld's core technology is AI robots equipped with the Robot Foundation Model (RFM) 'RLDX (Real Dex)'. These robots precisely analyze stores to detect stockouts and, in conjunction with KDDI's operating platform, autonomously display and replenish products such as snacks and beverages. In particular, the 4D+ data collection system, remote manipulation technology, and sophisticated 5-fingered robot hands maximize the accuracy and flexibility of these tasks. Through this, Realworld aims to achieve intelligent display optimization and establish a fully autonomous operating system. Ryu Joong-hee, CEO of Realworld, emphasized that AI and robots are not meant to replace humans but rather serve as tools to augment human capabilities, and stated that RLDX will ultimately create an environment where people and robots collaborate. He also presented a vision that this KDDI Summit will serve as a significant catalyst to accelerate the data and robot-centric restructuring of Japan's retail industry. Building upon the results of this demonstration, Realworld plans to expand collaborations with major retail and logistics companies in Japan starting in 2026 and establish retail-specialized RFMs. Furthermore, centered around its three corporate entities in Korea, Japan, and the U.S., it plans to deploy the 'Industrial & Service AI Deployment Program', thereby strengthening its position in the global market.
