Monolith, which is pursuing a merger with Daesung Finetec, will create a large-scale smart racing theme park, '9.81 Park Pohang', in the Janggi-myeon area, Nam-gu, Pohang-si. This project, targeting an opening in 2028, will be established within the 40,000 pyeong (approx. 132,000 square meters) 'Costa Valley Tourist Resort Zone', along with a 500-room hotel, condos, and a golf course.
Monolith provides a unique total solution covering the entire process, from theme park planning to vehicle manufacturing and IT operating systems. In particular, 9.81 Park Pohang is the third smart racing theme park in Korea, following 9.81 Park Jeju and Incheon Airport, and it is highly significant as it is the first case where Monolith grants an exclusive business right to a third-party operator and supplies facilities and solutions.
The park will be composed of 4 courses and 10 tracks on a 42,000 pyeong (approx. 139,000 square meters) site, equivalent in scale to Jeju Park. It aims to be a global-level theme park by combining the regional characteristics of Gyeongbuk and K-content. Monolith emphasizes a business model that can attract 1 million visitors annually with approximately 1/10 of the investment cost compared to imported theme parks, thus reducing the initial investment burden and being advantageous for securing profitability.
This Pohang project is expected to be a significant turning point for Monolith's domestic and international expansion. Based on its operational experience with 9.81 Park Jeju, Monolith aims to expand to 5 locations domestically and 50 locations overseas, and is currently exploring entry into the Chinese market in addition to Incheon and Pohang. To this end, a dedicated task force for track design and content planning has been formed, and full-scale implementation plans have been initiated.
