Naver Cloud X NVIDIA to Achieve Southeast Asia Sovereign AI Success This Year

Naver Cloud CEO Kim Yu-won attended NVIDIA's annual event 'GTC 2025' held in San Jose, USA, where he announced a strong ambition to accelerate the establishment of a 'Sovereign AI ecosystem' through collaboration with NVIDIA, especially aiming to achieve tangible results in Southeast Asia within this year. Speaking as a presenter at the 'Sovereign AI Summit', CEO Kim introduced 'HyperCLOVA X', a large language model (LLM) based on non-English languages, proving the feasibility of Sovereign AI. This is attributed to Naver's unique 'AI value chain' that only Naver can implement. Naver's capabilities, encompassing all areas from data to AI backbone, supercomputing infrastructure, cloud, and data centers, enable it to provide optimized Sovereign AI solutions tailored to the technological development stage of each country and company. CEO Kim emphasized that AI should become a practical tool for solving social problems, citing examples such as 'CLOVA CareCall', which supports the care of elderly living alone in a super-aged society, and the implementation of 'Neurocloud' applied in key national industries like Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and the Bank of Korea. He stressed, "To solve the problems faced by each country and company, their own AI capabilities, in other words, Sovereign AI, are essential, and Naver will actively assist these entities." Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of co-prosperity, stating, "Not only companies that have experienced the entire AI value chain like Naver, but also various partners, including NVIDIA, must collaboratively build this ecosystem." To realize this vision, Naver Cloud and NVIDIA have been closely discussing business models for establishing Sovereign AI since last year. With a particular focus on the Southeast Asian market, they plan to jointly discover local partners for LLMs, infrastructure, and applications, and create concrete success stories within this year.
