Mango Slab's AI Braille label printer, 'Nemonic Dot', a startup from Samsung Electronics' C-Lab, has reached the pinnacle of technological innovation by winning the Best of Innovation award at CES 2026. This is the second highest honor, following the 'Nemonic' sticky note printer in 2017.
Nemonic Dot introduces groundbreaking technology where AI converts over 100 languages into accurate Braille codes from just smartphone voice input, then prints the labels. This means that even non-disabled individuals can easily create Braille labels without needing months of Braille study or complex input methods.
The Mango Slab team, primarily composed of individuals with experience in Samsung Electronics' printer and mobile phone development, developed a unique printing method inspired by car engines, achieving uniform Braille height (0.6mm), compliant with national standards, from a palm-sized device. This resolves the issues of low Braille height (average 0.35mm) and inconsistency found in existing portable printers, providing Braille that visually impaired individuals can read without discomfort. Furthermore, its ability to print on metal labels allows for the immediate use of highly durable Braille on-site.
Nemonic Dot fully opens its SDK and API, allowing immediate integration with pharmacy dispensing systems, hospital EMRs, retail POS systems, and more. By automatically printing prescription information as Braille labels without separate input, it solves the 'time' problem in pharmacies, and reflects the voices from real-world sites through collaborations with institutions like the National Rehabilitation Center.
The success of the existing 'Nemonic', which demonstrated market viability by selling 240,000 units and generating 25 billion KRW in revenue over nine years, provides a solid foundation for Nemonic Dot's global expansion. Mango Slab plans to pioneer the 'On-Demand Braille' market within the global Braille printing market, which is valued at 3.4 trillion KRW annually.
Yoon Ha-neul, Vice President of Mango Slab, stated their ambition: "Through a 'platform strategy' that integrates Braille solutions into the systems of pharmacies, hospitals, retail, and public institutions in each country, we will create a world where Braille becomes an 'everyday language' rather than a 'special consideration'." Nemonic Dot will be officially unveiled at CES in January 2026 and will embark on its global market offensive in the first half of the year.
