MakinaRocks Begins Developing 'Equipment Operations AI Advisor' for Naval Vessels
**MakinaRocks Leads Defense AI Innovation by Developing AI Staff for Naval Vessels** Industrial AI specialist MakinaRocks has partnered with the Republic of Korea Navy's First Fleet Command to embark on the development of an 'Equipment Operation AI Staff' that will innovate the operation and management of vessel equipment. This project, which will proceed for approximately one year, aims to implement an AI solution optimized for the naval vessel environment, which is severely constrained by network and resource limitations. This development is based on MakinaRocks' 'Integrated Defense AI Platform (Runway)', which was recognized after the company was selected as one of the 'Defense Innovation Companies 100'. The core of the project is for AI to learn from a vast amount of equipment operation manuals and maintenance guidelines, and by reflecting daily operation and maintenance data in real-time, to provide an intelligent support system that enables crew members to operate and manage complex vessel equipment more easily and efficiently. This is expected to lay the groundwork for even low-skilled personnel to proficiently handle core weapon systems (e.g., Mk.45 5-inch naval guns). The special environment of naval vessels, namely limited network and GPU resources, has been a significant obstacle to applying existing cloud-based AI systems. To overcome this, MakinaRocks utilizes its proprietary AI platform 'Runway (MakinaRocks Runway)', applying a k3s-based lightweight LLMOps environment and on-board data preprocessing technology. Furthermore, complex manuals and guidelines will be stored in a vector database, and information will be provided in a readily usable form on-site through a Retrieval Agent and an LLM-based response system. MakinaRocks emphasizes that this project will be a significant milestone, proving that AI specialized for defense can function as an actual combat asset. Yoon Sung-ho, CEO of MakinaRocks, stated his ambition, saying, "We will verify the operational feasibility of AI in a real vessel environment with limited resources and network, and create a tangible success story where AI dramatically improves on-site equipment operation and management capabilities by learning and providing complex manuals in real-time." Meanwhile, MakinaRocks is the only company among the 'Defense Innovation Companies 100' to possess its own AI platform, 'Runway', and this platform has already been recognized for its performance in various industrial settings, including Hyundai Motor Company, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and the Agency for Defense Development. The company's business contract value this year has grown two-fold compared to the previous year, and it is steadily progressing towards its goal of listing on KOSDAQ in the first half of next year.
