VueOne Technology (hereinafter referred to as VueRun), a company specializing in smart infrastructure and autonomous driving LiDAR perception solutions, announced on the 27th that it has successfully completed a LiDAR-based traffic and pedestrian analysis demonstration project conducted in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, significantly enhancing the potential for LiDAR technology in urban public safety. This demonstration project focused on verifying the accuracy of technology that detects and quantifies urban traffic volume and pedestrian traffic in real-time around the Wasangyo Bridge in Eunpyeong-gu. On the bridge, LiDAR sensors reliably detected and measured various types of traffic, including cars, commercial vehicles, and motorcycles, confirming the potential to secure fundamental data for establishing data-driven administrative policies and monitoring traffic flow in urban areas. In particular, based on its environmental robustness that is unaffected by weather or lighting changes, LiDAR sensors accurately detected the movement of pedestrians and cyclists beneath the bridge even in low-light environments, such as at night, analyzing real-time traffic volume. Furthermore, the anonymous data collection method, which prevents personal identification, was highlighted as a major advantage, enabling smart infrastructure application without privacy concerns. The data collected through this demonstration is expected to be utilized as fundamental information for ensuring pedestrian safety and improving pedestrian environments in the future. An official from Eunpyeong-gu Office expressed expectations that this demonstration would be a meaningful case of utilizing scientific data for improving traffic and pedestrian environments. Kim Jae-gwang, CEO of VueRun, stated that through this project, they have proven the stable object recognition and quantification capabilities of LiDAR technology, and plan to expand its application to various fields such as public safety and traffic operation efficiency through cooperation with local governments nationwide. Established in 2019, VueRun is a leading LiDAR technology company in the autonomous driving and ADAS sectors, and is already active in various unmanned mobility and intelligent transportation system (ITS) fields through its autonomous driving solution 'VueOne' and smart infrastructure solution 'VueTwo'. VueRun plans to use this project as a stepping stone to further focus on data-driven technology development and service advancement for building sustainable smart cities.
