Law & Company Joins SKT K-AI Alliance as Sole Legal Tech Participant
Legal tech startup Law&Company is gaining attention as it joins the SK Telecom-led ‘K-AI Alliance’ as a new member. As the only legal tech company among the 37 participating enterprises, it is expected to bring a fresh impetus to the legal field, strengthening Korea's AI technology competitiveness. Launched in February 2023, the K-AI Alliance aims to advance domestic AI technology, with leading startups participating, including 10 companies selected for the government's ‘Independent AI Foundation Model’ project. Since establishing its legal AI research institute in 2019, Law&Company has been dedicated to developing AI-based legal services. Following the integrated legal information service ‘Bigcase’ in 2022, its legal AI service ‘Superlawyer’, introduced in 2024, has successfully established itself in the market, attracting 15,000 subscribers—approximately 48% of practicing lawyers in Korea—within 14 months of its launch. Superlawyer demonstrated the applicability of AI in the legal field by achieving a correct answer rate equivalent to the top 5% of successful candidates in the multiple-choice questions of the 14th Bar Examination last May. This marks the first instance of an AI service in a non-English-speaking country perfectly solving all objective sections of a bar examination in its native language, serving as an opportunity to globally showcase Law&Company's technological prowess. Furthermore, Law&Company is already contributing to national AI development, having participated as part of the Upstage consortium in the government's ‘Independent AI Foundation Model’ project and being selected as one of the five elite teams. Jeong Hee-young, Head of SK Telecom's Global A&I Center, expressed great anticipation for the ‘technological synergy’ with Law&Company, emphasizing the high growth potential of legal AI. Kim Bon-hwan, CEO of Law&Company, also articulated ambitions to contribute to the expansion of the legal AI ecosystem through collaboration with startups possessing diverse AI capabilities. Law&Company plans to continue its active endeavors both domestically and internationally, starting with its participation in the K-AI Alliance Global Meetup to explore entry into the Japanese market, and engaging in activities such as the Korea Startup Forum AI Think Tank and discussions with the Ministry of Government Legislation.
