Even amidst the wave of video content, audio content is quietly but powerfully emerging, rising as a protagonist of a new era. A report from the US market research firm Grand View Research supports this trend. The global audio streaming market, valued at 60 trillion won in 2024, is projected to grow rapidly to 158 trillion won by 2030, recording a high compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.3%. In particular, the Asia-Pacific region is being highlighted as a key driver of this growth. User data from domestic audio content platform startup Kokoji vividly demonstrates how this surge in audio has deeply permeated the daily lives of actual users. According to data collected from over 100,000 devices by Korean users (primarily children aged 0-7), the average daily listening time is 86 minutes, consuming 19 pieces of content. This is an increase in listening time from 72 minutes to 86 minutes compared to September 2023, proving that it has become a daily routine rather than just a simple interest. The pattern shows a first listening peak at 8 AM, coinciding with children's wake-up time, continuing through the evening after daycare/school, and forming a second peak at 8 PM before bedtime, demonstrating how closely audio content is integrated into children's daily lives. A similar routine-setting phenomenon was observed in the Taiwanese market, which was entered last year, with an average daily listening time of 91 minutes and 21 pieces of content. Behind this rise of audio content lies the expansion of a diverse and specialized ecosystem that goes beyond simple music listening to encompass professional educational content, including fairy tales, character education, life habits, and core subjects (Korean, English, Math). Park Ji-hee, CEO of Kokoji, emphasizes that they have redesigned the market by providing an integrated solution combining a dedicated device and a mobile app for "children's self-listening experience." Through collaborations with leading domestic and international IP companies such as The Pinkfong Company and Iconix, as well as children's publishers, they are continuously expanding the audio content ecosystem by transforming existing content into audio and building new revenue models. The resurgence of audio content in the age of video is not a coincidence but a result of a deep understanding of user experience, content diversity, and technological innovation coming together, and it is expected to exhibit an even stronger presence in the future.
