## Jeju Environmental Guardians, Created Together by Kakao and Startups! 30 Million Won Supported for Innovative Technology Jeju Center for Creative Economy & Innovation and Kakao have rolled up their sleeves to solve Jeju's environmental problems through '2025 J Impact Innovation'. They have selected three startups possessing innovative technologies that protect the environment, providing commercialization funds and full cooperation from Kakao, thereby presenting a new model for a sustainable Jeju. This program is an expanded version of the open innovation task that both companies have pursued since 2023, and this year, it particularly focuses on 'solving local environmental problems'. The startups that will seek answers to Jeju's chronic environmental issues through technology are as follows. **Code of Nature:** This company, which provides nature-based solutions for responding to climate change, has already participated in the Donnario-oreum soil restoration project. It is expected to create synergy in natural ecosystem protection, aligning with Kakao's ESG management principles. **VPP Lab:** VPP Lab, an expert in renewable energy transition technology and RE100, is already a cooperation partner for Kakao Jeju Office's RE100 achievement. Through this project, they plan to develop a Jeju-type RE100 leading model and advance new energy utilization business solutions within the region. **Shell Corporation:** They proposed a project to 'upcycle' discarded Tyvek material into practical products such as bags and pouches. They will collect waste resources generated in the Jeju region to enhance the value of resource circulation and promote the production and distribution of upcycled products through collaboration with Kakao. The three selected companies will each receive 30 million won in commercialization funds and will turn their ideas into reality through close cooperation with Kakao. In the recent orientation held at Jeju Space.1, where Kakao's headquarters is located, practical discussions for the successful progress of the project took place. An official from Jeju Center for Creative Economy & Innovation stated, "At a time when the need for technological solutions for Jeju's environment is growing, we expect innovative solutions from startups to emerge." A Kakao official also expressed their ambition, saying, "We will actively support the selected companies so that their technologies can solve local problems and further expand into social value." Through this collaboration, it remains to be seen whether Jeju's beautiful nature will meet technology to create an even greener future.
