Gyeonggi Innovation Center Successfully Concludes Climate Tech Startup IR, Boosting Investment Traction
Gyeonggido Creative Economy Innovation Center (hereinafter Gyeonggi CCEI) successfully hosted the '34th Startup 815 IR-SEED' event on October 16th at Pangyo Startup Zone, aimed at helping climate tech startups, which integrate advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and energy, attract investment. This event was an opportunity for major domestic investors to closely review the technological competitiveness and market expansion potential of technology-based startups presenting innovative solutions for responding to the climate crisis. In particular, PM Energy Solution, which possesses waste battery recycling technology, and GIOHTECH, which showcased carbon dioxide (CO₂) capture technology, received high interest from investors. PM Energy Solution unveiled an innovative solution that applies AI-based cell screening technology to used cylindrical batteries, diagnosing battery status to remanufacture them into small-capacity mobility battery packs. This solution is highly regarded for significantly contributing to waste battery recycling and the realization of a circular economy, while maximizing the efficiency of manufacturing and remanufacturing processes. GIOHTECH introduced its acid-base-based selective CO₂ absorption technology and plant operation and maintenance (O&M) services utilizing it. This technology demonstrated high applicability in industrial settings by achieving high-purity CO₂ capture while significantly improving cost-efficiency and maintenance convenience. The IR event, held in a closed format, was attended by leading domestic climate tech specialized venture capitalists and institutional representatives, including Philosophia Ventures, Nextwave Venture Partners, and Partners Investment. They engaged in in-depth question-and-answer sessions regarding the presenting companies' technological competitiveness, business viability, and global expansion strategies, actively discussing potential investment linkages. An official from Gyeonggi CCEI emphasized that climate tech is a key sector leading industrial change through deep-tech-based innovations such as AI, new materials, and energy. The official added that Gyeonggi CCEI will further strengthen its network and support system to enable climate tech startups with technological competitiveness to attract investment and enter global markets. Meanwhile, Gyeonggi CCEI, in collaboration with Gyeonggi Province, is promoting the 'Climate Tech Startup Incubation Program,' discovering and intensively fostering climate technology startups in various fields such as carbon capture/reduction and eco-friendly materials. The center aims to support a total of 100 climate tech startups by 2026, helping them grow into global unicorn companies.
