South Korean innovation company Dot is opening new horizons in developing digital accessibility solutions for the visually impaired and has garnered global attention by being invited as an official presenter at Microsoft's annual developer conference, 'Build 2025'. At this event, Dot unveiled its 'Inclusive AI' innovation case and earned the distinction of being the first Korean company to participate as an official partner in the Microsoft Copilot ecosystem. The core solution introduced by Dot is 'Dot Vista'. This technology combines Microsoft's next-generation strategy, Copilot+ PC and Windows AI Foundry, with Windows AI API and Dot's unique digital braille device, 'DotPad'. This solution transforms visual content such as graphs and charts within Microsoft PowerPoint files, allowing visually impaired individuals to fully understand them through touch and voice, thereby breaking down barriers to information accessibility. Dot Vista was born from industry-academia collaboration between Dot's AI team and Professor Yooyong Jae's research team at Hanyang University ERICA's Department of Artificial Intelligence, and boasts the advantage of being able to process core information quickly and stably on a local device, without complex server environments or internet connections, thanks to the Copilot+ PC's built-in NPU. This is a key strength emphasized by Dot's co-CEOs, Kim Juyoon and Sung Gigwang. DotPad is an innovative device that surpasses the limitations of existing braille displays, capable of simultaneously outputting up to 7 lines of braille and tactile graphic information. It significantly enhances information accessibility in learning and work environments by providing various types of information, such as mathematical formulas, programming code, and complex tables, through touch. Dot's technological prowess and social value are highly praised by international experts. Dave Williams, an accessibility expert from the UK's Braillists Foundation, evaluated DotPad as having laid the foundation for collaboration between visually impaired and sighted individuals, and Maziar Zahedfarbar, head of Oxford University, emphasized that Dot's AI-based learning content is making immersive learning environments a reality. Currently, Dot is jointly developing tactile-based curricula with leading global educational institutions such as Oxford University and Boston College, and is setting new standards for digital accessibility by expanding partnerships with organizations like the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) in the UK and public libraries in the US. Dot, which boasts prestigious awards such as the CES Best of Innovation Award and the SXSW Innovation Award, is preparing for a KOSDAQ listing with Samsung Securities, and plans to leverage this 'Build 2025' announcement as a stepping stone to fully initiate AI-based collaborations with global technology companies, leading an inclusive future for all.
