Kim Ju-yoon, CEO of Dot, a startup leading information accessibility technology for the visually impaired, is garnering attention after being selected as one of the '80 National Representatives' as part of the '21st Presidential National Appointment Ceremony'. CEO Kim was recognized for his contributions to resolving social inequality and realizing inclusive values through technology, earning him a place as a social innovation entrepreneur. Notably, among the total 80 representatives, only two are startup CEOs, which further highlights the significance of his selection.
Dot's core technology is 'Dot Pad,' which converts visual information into real-time tactile graphics. This technology has opened new horizons for information accessibility by delivering complex visual content such as images, graphs, and maps to the visually impaired, going beyond the limitations of existing text-based braille information. Dot collaborates with global companies and organizations like Apple, Google, and the UN, participating in the establishment of international tactile and braille technology standards in education and public services.
Currently, various education departments, including the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Library of Congress, and Oxford University, are actively considering the adoption of Dot Pad. Furthermore, technical verification is underway at rehabilitation centers under the U.S. Department of Defense, where it is being evaluated as a healthcare solution for those who have acquired visual impairments.
CEO Kim emphasized his philosophy that "technology is not just for specific individuals, but a structural issue that must consider everyone's conditions," and presented the expansion of digital accessibility in major areas of life such as healthcare, education, public services, transportation, and finance as Dot's core goal for the next 10 years. Having recently successfully completed its pre-Series C funding round, Dot is accelerating its global market expansion by pursuing large-scale supply contracts with governments and public institutions in North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
The '80 National Representatives,' including CEO Kim, are scheduled to participate in the '21st Presidential National Appointment Ceremony' titled '80 Years of Liberation, Building the Future with National Sovereignty,' held on August 15th at Gwanghwamun Square.
