Innovation in Construction and Shipbuilding Sites Shines with Crowworks AI Interpretation App Selected by ITU
Korea's advanced AI technology has been recognized for its innovativeness on the global stage. A specialized AI interpretation app for the construction and shipbuilding industries, jointly developed by a domestic construction company and Crowworks, achieved the remarkable feat of being selected as an 'Influential AI Use Case' in the 'Innovate for Impact' project organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) under the United Nations. This innovative solution, which goes beyond mere language barriers to resolve chronic communication issues at industrial sites and make a crucial contribution to preventing serious accidents, has received international acclaim.
The ITU, a UN specialized agency that leads international standards in the information and communication technology sector, launched the 'Innovate for Impact' project in 2024 to discover AI use cases that solve real-world problems and share expertise. This year, a total of 234 cases were submitted from 32 countries, and 15 cases from Korea were included among the excellent cases selected through rigorous screening. Among them, Crowworks' interpretation app received particularly high praise for being an industry-specific AI interpretation app developed by intensively training a large language model (LLM) with over 100,000 specialized terms from the construction and shipbuilding industries. Its direct contribution to resolving communication issues caused by translation errors and reducing safety accidents at industrial sites is a key factor proving its innovativeness.
The biggest strength of this interpretation app is that it includes over 100,000 specialized terms for construction and shipbuilding that cannot be found in general interpretation apps. Based on this, it provides remarkably accurate interpretation and translation in over 20 languages, fundamentally solving language communication problems at complex and hazardous construction and shipbuilding sites. Furthermore, considering the characteristics of noisy construction sites, it supports speech-to-text (STT) and text-to-speech (TTS) functions, maximizing practicality by enabling on-site workers to clearly recognize speech and communicate with natural voices.
Crowworks underwent a meticulous and systematic process to develop this special AI interpretation app. They extensively collected vivid expressions frequently used on-site, not only from specialized glossaries of public institutions like the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport but also through in-depth interviews with actual construction workers. The collected data was precisely translated into multiple languages to build a high-quality, industry-specific dataset, and through a sophisticated prompt engineering process based on this, an AI interpretation app optimized for construction sites was finally born. The fact that its accuracy and user satisfaction have already been highly proven through over 1.05 million user tests in actual field conditions further firmly supports the app's reliability.
Kim Wooseung, CEO of Crowworks, shared his thoughts, stating, "It is very meaningful that an AI case developed with Korean technology and ideas has been recognized as an innovative case by an international organization." He further presented his future vision, saying, "Going forward, we will continue to create innovative AI solutions like this in various industrial sectors such as legal and medical, and through collaboration with diverse clients, we will continuously strive to develop AI services and solutions that can have a positive impact on society as a whole." Crowworks' AI interpretation app is firmly establishing itself as a shining success story of K-AI technology, going beyond a simple language tool to simultaneously enhance efficiency and safety in industrial sites.
