Global calendar sharing platform TimeTree has acquired NETY, a key player in the domestic university student market, injecting new energy into the digital calendar landscape. TimeTree, co-founded by former Kakao Japan CEO Park Cha-jin, is already an undisputed global powerhouse with over 60 million users in 200 countries and 13 languages worldwide. Having recently established its Korean subsidiary, TimeTree Korea, and officially entered the domestic market, TimeTree is expected to focus on acquiring new young users through this acquisition of NETY.
NETY, which has now joined TimeTree, is an innovative service created in 2023 by two student founders, Jeong Ha-jin from Yonsei University and Kim Min-kyu from Korea University, through a startup club. It gained explosive popularity among MZ generation university students by providing integrated academic schedules for major universities nationwide and a personalized event recommendation system, establishing itself as an MZ generation-tailored calendar app that has captivated 120,000 student subscribers.
TimeTree plans to organically integrate NETY's core features into its ‘Public Calendar’ platform to maximize synergy. It will significantly enhance content specialized for the university student lifestyle, such as adjusting academic schedules for each university, expanding community features, and sharing schedules exclusively for clubs and student councils. In particular, it is expected to elevate the quality of service by introducing a sophisticated AI-based event recommendation system.
Through this acquisition, TimeTree will carry out a mobile-optimized UI/UX revamp and advanced group schedule management features to further enhance user convenience. Furthermore, it will ensure seamless service continuity and provide additional benefits to existing NETY users, positioning TimeTree as a powerful bridgehead to accelerate the acquisition of new young users in Korea.
