South Korean flagship animations 'Pororo the Little Penguin' and 'Tay the Little Bus' are accelerating their leap onto the global stage, backed by artificial intelligence (AI) technology. AI medi-tech company Hudson AI and animation studio Iconix have formed a strategic partnership, planning to dramatically reduce the long-standing challenge of localization costs and time for overseas market entry through AI dubbing solutions.
An Iconix official expressed expectations that the introduction of AI dubbing would significantly cut existing translation and dubbing costs, particularly enabling faster content delivery to markets with high localization expenses, such as North America and Japan.
Given the nature of children's animation, where preschoolers and young children are the main audience, providing localized dubbing rather than subtitles is essential. However, traditional dubbing methods have required enormous production costs and long durations, proving to be a major obstacle to producing content in various languages.
Hudson AI's AI dubbing technology transcends the limitations of both traditional voice actor-based dubbing and TTS (Text-to-Speech). By enabling natural acting tones while also facilitating an efficient production process, it has achieved an innovation that captures both quality and cost-efficiency. This is expected to become a key driver for further enhancing the competitiveness of Korean content even in high-cost markets like North America and Japan.
Shin Hyun-jin, CEO of Hudson AI, announced plans to expand dubbing languages to include European languages, starting with German this year, thereby driving the global influence of leading domestic media content beyond 'Pororo' and 'Tay'. Furthermore, at the upcoming MWC, the world's largest mobile exhibition, Hudson AI plans to unveil its real-time multi-language TTS technology, presenting a vision to break down global communication barriers across all media, including chatbots, games, and various AI agents.
