Fashion platform 'Charan,' which leads the way in protecting the global environment, has announced brilliant achievements, opening new horizons for sustainable consumption. Over the past year, through the trading of used clothing, it has reduced carbon emissions by approximately 9,000 tons, a remarkable feat that has achieved a massive environmental improvement effect equivalent to planting 990,000 30-year-old pine trees.
'Charan,' operated by Mine is, analyzed data over 1 year and 5 months since its official service launch in August 2023. The results show that it successfully distributed a total of 116 tons of clothing, preventing 9,031,126 kg of carbon emissions generated during the production stage. This achievement shines even brighter given the reality of 110,000 tons of domestic textile waste annually, proving that Charan's role extends beyond simply buying and selling items, establishing itself as a core driving force for resource circulation.
Charan's secret to success lies in its convenient all-in-one service. It directly collects clothing from sellers and handles all processes, from merchandising to sales and delivery, directly contributing to the reduction of textile waste. An average of 2,600 new garments are registered daily, and a high sales rate of 70% along with a repurchase rate of 60% demonstrate that consumers recognize Charan's value and actively use its service.
Beyond simple second-hand transactions, Charan demonstrates its sincerity towards environmental protection through active ESG management. During the inspection process, clothing difficult to sell is either returned or helps resource circulation through 'proxy donation,' and all products use biodegradable plastics, recycled boxes, and FSC-certified eco-friendly paper packaging. Furthermore, a nature-friendly themed membership tier system, from 'seed to earth,' highlights the meticulous effort to inspire customers' environmental consciousness.
Charan's eco-friendly initiatives perfectly align with the sustainable consumption trends led by the MZ generation, driving explosive growth. As used clothing transcends 'recycling' to become 'fashion culture,' Charan is creating new value at its core. Kim Hye-seong, CEO of Mine is, emphasized, "Unworn clothes offer consumers a reasonable shopping experience and society the gift of environmental improvement," and stated that they will continue to strive for second-hand fashion to establish itself as a firm trend. Coupled with increasing environmental awareness, the domestic used clothing market is expected to continue remarkable growth in the future.
